Raw Brownie Bites

I made these the other night when we’d run out of dark chocolate which is my usual sweet treat.  They are raw, vegan, refined sugar free, dairy free and gluten free…you can’t get better than that and still get your chocolate fix!  I made these using orange and coconut but you can try anything you like such as coffee extract, peppermint oil, dried fruit, spices  etc

makes about 15-20 balls.

300g pitted dates

40g raw cacao powder (or cocoa)

2 tbsp raw coconut oil

50g ground almonds

50g dessicated coconut

2 tsp vanilla extract

zest of 1 large orange

Method:

Soak the dates in hot water for 30 minutes to soften them slightly.  Drain well.

Place everything in a food processor and blend until combined, scraping down the sides as needed.

Take large teaspoon sized amounts and roll into balls, it shold be sticky and pliable, if too wet add a bit more ground almonds to firm up.

Roll the balls in coconut or chooped nuts, or cacao powder.  Store in the fridge.

These also make lovely gifts if put in little paper cases and arranged  in a box with tissue paper.
